Eugene, OR transforms food scraps into valuable compost
The city of Eugene partnered with licensed garbage haulers and private organics processors to launch the Love Food Not Waste (LFNW) pilot program to transform food scraps into valuable compost. As an incentive for business participation, commercial customers that divert food waste through LFNW get a 20% reduction in their garbage service fee. The city trains participating employees and provides resources at no cost. The participating businesses also receive recognition through LFNW marketing.
