Fresno, CA provides free Internet connectivity to commuters with public transit Wi-Fi pilot

Fresno, CA Public Bus Internet Connectivity Wi-Fi Pilot

In Progress

The city's Department of Transportation installed Wi-Fi equipment on 18 Fresno Area Express (FAX) buses. A one-month testing period before the pilot shored up defenses against cybersecurity threats. Commuters on equipped buses can expect download speeds up to four megabytes per second during non-peak periods. Transit officials will evaluate user experiences and technical performance before a planned expansion to the entire 125-bus fleet.
