Haarlem, NH SMART sewage traps to reduce rat nuisance

The Municipality of Haarlem deployed SMART sewage traps designed to tackle the rat nuisance in the Vondelkwartier sewer system. The SMART sewage traps detect heat and movement in order to capture and kill rats. The SMART sewage traps do not use poison or bait and they do not affect wastewater flow.

De meldingen over rattenoverlast in Haarlem nemen toe. Om de overlast te beperken worden extra SMART rioleringsvallen geplaatst. Sinds begin oktober worden de vallen geplaatst in diverse wijken door heel Haarlem.

Project Succeeded

After installing the SMART sewage traps in the Vondelkwartier sewer system, the number of rat nuisance complaints decreased by 76% compared to the year before.
