New Plymouth District Council opened a drive-thru voting station where residents could drop off their ballots on National Vote Day in 2019. This drive-thru ballot box initiative was designed to increase voting participation rates in local body elections. Participants were able to drop off their votes in between errands and were rewarded with free ice cream.

Project Succeeded
According to the New Plymouth District Council External Relations Manager the drive-thru voting station exceeded expectations by collecting more than 200 votes.
