Portsmouth, NH created a "Living Bridge" to generate the data necessary for proactive maintenance
Portsmouth, NH self-diagnosing self-reporting “smart bridge"
The city of Portsmouth transformed it's Memorial Bridge into a living laboratory powered by tidal energy. The bridge's three-meter-wide tidal turbine powers smart sensors and bridge lighting. The self-diagnosing, self-reporting “smart bridge” automatically feeds data to engineers, scientists, and students which enables proactive maintenance to extend the bridge's lifespan.
