Stockport Metropolitan Borough Council, GB starts active travel network with innovative crosswalk
Stockport Metropolitan Borough Council, GB Active Crosswalk
The Sparrow parallel crosswalk on Gillbent Road in Cheadle Hulme includes separate lanes for pedestrian and cycle traffic. This intersection is the first of its kind in the United Kingdom. Borough officials are building off the Gillbent Road project with new segregated trails, upgraded paths, and signal improvements that encourage active travel. Stockport is working with neighboring communities to connect non-vehicle traffic infrastructure through The Mayor's Challenge Fund.
