The City of Unley, SA evaluates organic waste collection with Going Green in Goodwood trial
The City of Unley, SA Going Green in Goodwood Organics
Complete
Residents of the Goodwood suburb were invited to collect food waste for weekly collection during a six-month trial. The council offered free starter kits with kitchen caddies, compostable bags, and recycling tips. Unley and project partner KESAB conducted three audits of random green bins to gather data on the pilot's impacts. A Going Green in Goodwood engagement page generated community feedback through quick polls and a question-and-answer feature.
Project Succeeded
Random audits found 83% of organics were disposed of in compostable bags. KESAB also estimated 20% of households gathered enough food waste in their green bins to bypass weekly blue bin collections.
