Vernon, BC Firefighter Deployment Pilot Response Time
Vernon Fire Research Services tested a more flexible staffing model for its stations over a nine-month period. Station 1 housed full-time firefighters who could shift to Station 2 depending on staffing levels. The second station also used paid-per-call firefighters who do not require overtime hours. Vernon's firefighter deployment pilot followed a 2018 decision to use contractors rather than off-duty firefighters for dispatch duties.
