Austin, TX initiates a community food retail initiative in response to food access issues

Austin, TX Community Food Retail Initiative Food Access

Planning

A proposed partnership with Go Austin/Vamos Austin would open a city-funded grocery store for underserved residents in the Eastern Crescent. This partnership designs a pilot store with resident input on proposed locations and retail formats. Three hundred residents are selected as founding members and evaluate the store's services. The proposal uses $500,000 in federal ARPA funding to stand up a nonprofit, member-owned, or employee-owned store based on pilot results.
