Austin, TX connected-vehicle pedestrian crossing alert pilot

In Progress

The city of Austin's Transportation Department partnered with TAPCO and Siemens to launch a connected-vehicle pilot program to improve pedestrian safety at two local crosswalks. Whenever a pedestrian pushes the signal at one of the crossings it automatically displays a message for oncoming drivers in connected-vehicles within a city block and provides an additional warning if the driver is about to run a red light.
