Boston, MA expands access to food with text message bot and food-matching platform
Boston, MA Food Access Text Message Bot Platform
Residents in need can text FOOD in eight languages to 617-579-8238 for automated assistance. The city's Office of Food Access (OFA) used a 2020 pilot of a food delivery bot to develop this SMS chat tool. OFA also created the Food Availability Network platform to better allocate food that might otherwise go to waste. Registered users list surplus resources available for free to hungry individuals and local charities.
