Lahti, FI Carbon-Neutral Construction Public Apartment
A new apartment complex near the city center will be Lahti's first to be built out of wood. Wooden structures hold carbon and their construction produces fewer emissions than concrete and steel. The complex slated for completion by 2024 will also feature solar installations, LED lights, and passive climate controls. City officials are drawing on partnerships with two lumber companies and a local university to maximize the complex's sustainable assets.
