Newcastle, NSW Autonomous Shuttle Pilot Last-Mile Transit

Complete

Council officials and transport firm Keolis Downer conducted a two-week test without passengers ahead of the three-month pilot. The driverless shuttle was free to passengers and served Wharf Road stops every weekday. An onboard chaperone observed the vehicle's interactions with traffic and made adjustments using a tablet. Onboard sensors, cameras, and a 20 kilometer-per-hour speed limit ensured safe trips between Watt Street and Nobbys Beach.
