Southampton City Council, GB monitors roadwork in real time with Operational Control Hubs
Balfour Beatty worked with city officials on digital hubs for road project management. Each Operational Control Hub features eight large screens for live tracking of maintenance team locations. Hub teams can assign workers for emergency repair work and maintain accurate timetables for project completion. Local leaders will use hub analytics in shaping highway improvement projects and traffic innovations. This partnership monitored 150 projects with five hubs by June 2023.

Normal, IL maps projects in its five-year Community Investment Plan with new dashboard
The GIS-based dashboard presents every project in the CIP running through Fiscal Year 2028. Dashboard users filter projects by type, fiscal year, and funding source. The tool's main page includes a list of 436 CIP projects and bar graphs showing how $174.8 million in public funds are spent. Project entries open to profiles including descriptions, priority level, and current phase. Normal produced a one-minute tutorial explaining the dashboard's functions.

Nashville and Davidson County, TN tracks neighborhood improvement projects with interactive map
The Neighborhoods Improvement Tracker presents a color-coded display of capital projects across Nashville. Eligible projects feature budgets of at least $50,000 and a use-life of at least 10 years. Planning officials divided 800 improvement projects at the tracker's introduction into categories including community safety and education. Tracker users click on each pinpoint for project details such as work completed percentage, budget, and estimated completion date.

Avondale, AZ Strategic Plan Dashboard presents city's progress toward long-term goals
The dashboard opens with an indicator showing progress toward the core purpose of Making Lives Better. Advancements in Strategic Outcome Areas (SOA) like Creative and Sustainable Community Development are shown as percentages. These percentages are based on visualizations of completed capital projects for each SOA strategy. Residents and community leaders can follow Avondale's work in 29 Key Performance Indicators from a single resource.

The San Diego City Council is considering proposals to help expedite infrastructure projects by reducing bureaucratic approval requirements, easing restrictions on contractors, and requiring nearby residents be notified about upcoming projects. Proponents of the proposals claim that if approved it would result in infrastructure projects in the city being built several months faster, project costing less, and enhanced transparency to the public.

Moose Jaw, SK demonstrates its progress on infrastructure improvements with Capital Projects Map
The mobile-friendly portal lists and maps all of the capital projects in the current year's budget. Each project includes a comparison of its estimated and actual costs, start dates, and end dates. Additional features include a four-phase progress bar and project images. A summary at the bottom of the map includes the number of active projects and the percentage of on-schedule projects. The Map's 2022 edition shows 54 budgeted projects including road repairs and system replacements.

London, ON stimulates the local economy during capital projects with Core Area Construction Dollars
The four-year pilot creates shopping vouchers for businesses near the East London Link and Downtown Loop projects. Two Business Improvement Associations distribute 5, 10, and 20 CAD credits during giveaways and promotions. Recipients can spend Construction Dollars at businesses displaying the project's orange sign through November 2022. London reimburses participating businesses for all Construction Dollar purchases, an estimated 90,000 CAD for 2022.

The city of Austin's municipally-owned water utility, Austin Water, built resilience and ensured affordability by implementing successful debt management strategies. These debt management strategies included near-zero percent interest loans for infrastructure, capital recovery fee collections, annual debt defeasances, and increased cash financing of capital projects. Austin Water has held water rates at a stable level that is less than water industry indexes for the last five years.

Kansas City's Public Improvements Advisory Committee (PIAC) hosts sixteen public hearings every year which provide residents with an opportunity to express their opinions, concerns, and projects requests. The city's public input process is bolstered by an ongoing commitment that 35% of the city's one-percent sales tax for capital improvements is reserved for and equally distributed across the city's six council districts to fund neighborhood specific capital projects.

The forecast found a $290 million CAD shortfall for infrastructure replacement based on current spending practices. Additional policies include the use of retired debt payments for a dedicated fund and full life-cycle analyses for new projects.

The Open Capital Projects Dashboard evaluates progress on projects with budgets exceeding $5 million CAD. A color-coded matrix classifies projects based on schedule and cost variances. Dashboard users click pins on an interactive map for current projects' budgets, timelines, and project documents. Winnipeg also created an Open Budget portal comparing the current year's actual and amended capital budget.

Ann Arbor, MI analyzes the results of road condition surveys on its Pavement Condition Dashboard
The Pavement Condition Dashboard uses data from visual assessments of city roads conducted every other year. Each report features a map with color coding based on the Pavement Surface Evaluation Rating (PASER) scale. Dashboard users find average condition ratings for local roads and major roads along with the amount of mileage at each PASER level. The Engineering Department includes previous reports and a map of upcoming roadwork projects in the dashboard.
