Nave Satélites - or Satellite Ships - convert former CIEP learning centers into accessible spaces for digital training. Local workers prepare for office employment with free courses like Basic Excel and IT certification options. Residents of all ages find computer stations for online tasks and tablets for Internet browsing. City officials anticipate each Nave Satélite will serve up to 450 people per month with three Zona Oeste locations planned by the end of 2023.

Evanston, IL addresses long-term impacts of housing discrimination with Restorative Housing Program
The first-of-its-type Restorative Housing Program offers $25,000 per direct descendent of African American or Black families who lived in Evanston between 1919 and 1969. These payments were initially limited to down payments, mortgage assistance, and home renovations. Evanston approved a direct cash payment option for eligible residents in 2023. The program's budget is funded by taxes collected on recreational marijuana sales.

The Equity Index Map uses a Racial Equity Index and Social Opportunity Indicators to highlight inequities by census tract. The Racial Equity Index presents socioeconomic disparities in categories ranging from homeownership to educational opportunity. Social Opportunity Indicator scores include walking distances to bus stops, college degree attainment, and Internet connectivity. The map complements city efforts like the 30-Day Racial Equity Challenge and the Racial Equity Toolkit.

The city's Office of Immigrant & Refugee Affairs and Cesco Linguistic Services want to turn fluent speakers of languages from Amharic to Urdu into professional interpreters. Participants who pass the English Proficiency and Target Language Exam complete a three-week course on interpretation services. The program offers free childcare and meals for those in attendance. Each graduate receives a certificate of completion and grants for local and state small business registration.

Regina, SK Inclusion Support Service makes recreation programs more accessible to all residents
The free service creates individualized recreation plans for residents with accessibility concerns. Support staff navigates participants through registration and identifies transportation options to recreation venues. Leisure Companions offer emotional support and assist recreation leaders with adjusting activities to user needs. Regina pursued this service as part of an Adapted Recreation Plan calling for a systemic approach to accessible resources.

Atlanta, GA combines fiber-optic infrastructure with smart city pop-ups in BeltLine redevelopment
Project leaders view the 33-mile trail network as a connectivity resource for patrons and nearby residents without reliable Internet access. Two smart city pop-ups on the BeltLine include free Wi-Fi and interactive maps. City officials and local partners will also test autonomous grocery stores, smart waste bins, and other technology at pop-ups. Fiber-optic lines installed by eX² Technology throughout the Atlanta BeltLine support digital inclusion efforts.

Armidale Regional, NSW Girls in Civil initiative encourages construction workforce diversity
The three-week program shows entry points into the civil construction industry for female high school students. Participants learn about the industry and employment opportunities from construction experts. Girls in Civil includes visits to local construction sites, equipment demonstrations, and presentations by experienced professionals. Armidale and Training Services NSW hope participants are empowered to work in the male-dominated construction industry.

Mitchell, VIC tests gender impact assessment app for policy and program development
Mitchell's GIA app follows a four-step model - assumptions, context, options, and recommendations - for impact assessment. Council employees use the mobile app when assessing the consequences of their work on men, women, and gender-diverse residents. GIA reports are sent to the Gender Equality Action Group for review. Mitchell is working with Women’s Health Goulburn North East on staff training about effective assessments during the pilot's early days.

Vancouver, BC Last Call Pilot Project takes aim at sexual harassment in bars and clubs
Vancouver and project partner Good Night Out selected six establishments for the one-year pilot. Each venue receives full-staff training on harassment prevention, free subscriptions to the #NotMe platform, and display materials. Patrons are encouraged to download the #NotMe mobile app for anonymous reporting of misconduct and harassment in any establishment. City officials pursued the pilot in response to data indicating frequent incidents of harassment and violence in hospitality settings.

London Borough of Merton, GB adopts technological approach to recognizing origins of street names
Borough officials initiated a two-month public consultation on how to acknowledge street names with historical ties to slavery. This process excluded street renaming due to the accompanying expense and mapping complications. A majority of respondents supported recognition with QR codes on impacted streets as the most popular solution. The council will develop QR landing pages that shed light on the backgrounds of streets like Marryat Road and Drax Avenue.

Pierce County, WA spurs growth in local emerging companies with Business Accelerator
The Pierce County Business Accelerator was funded by $5 million in federal ARPA funding. Eligible businesses operate physical locations in the county and earn annual revenues under $325,000. Multilingual trainers work with participants on raising $10,000 in capital to receive up to $10,000 in matching grants from the county. Selected businesses qualify for one year of commercial rent subsidies up to $500 per month and receive technical assistance.
