Ongoing discussions with community members led to co-designed solutions for social vulnerability, public safety, and improved student outcomes.

Stirling, WA deploys AI-powered chatbot for community feedback on local parks and facilities
Stirling and Hello Lamppost introduced Ainsley for public engagement during the design of its 10-year Community Infrastructure Plan. Signs with QR codes for the chatbot were installed at 42 locations including libraries, basketball courts, and community centers. Ainsley asks questions about visitor experiences, facility conditions, and areas of improvement by text message. The chatbot can also answer questions about city facilities and amenities.

Council officials sought resident suggestions on how to reduce borough expenses by £38 million for a balanced 2023-2024 budget. Simulator users toggled subcategories of six budget areas including Adult Social Care & Health, Neighbourhood Services, and Regeneration. The toggle feature allowed budget reductions of up to 75%. A running total of budget savings turned from red to green when the user achieved a balanced budget.

Saanich, BC seeks public input on proposed Financial Plan with budget education tool
Saanich used the Ethelo platform to build a budget education tool for its 2023-2027 Financial Plan. Local residents enter their assessed property value and find out what taxes are collected and how they are used. The tool educates users in eight budget categories and shows how budget increases or decreases impact their property taxes. District officials will consult resident suggestions and comments on budget explainers when finalizing the plan.

South Ayrshire Council, GB evaluates development engagement efforts built on the ArcGIS Hub platform
Esri UK provided South Ayrshire Council with free software access and expert advice for the pilot. A prototype engagement platform sought community feedback on local development plans via social media comments. Each comment was tagged to the user's location, thus mapping hotspots for resident concerns and ideas. The council's planning team produced reports combining GIS data, assessments, and social media comments from an internal dashboard.

Engage Maple Ridge kicked off with a consultation for a new park at Pazarena Place and a community shout-outs feature. Newly registered platform users are entered into a random drawing for a CAD 100 gift card through March 31, 2023. There is also a photo contest seeking user submissions of their favorite people, places, and objects throughout the city. Photographers receiving the most upvotes from community members receive CAD 50 gift cards to their favorite local shops.

Hello Scottsdale uses an AI-enabled platform to answer frequently asked questions about local events and services. The service also encourages feedback and suggestions about improvements to city services. City officials distributed signs with the service's number throughout Old Town Scottsdale to maximize visibility for visitors and residents. The Hello Scottsdale pilot extends to targeted neighborhoods with curbside bin stickers.
