Bath & North East Somerset Council, GB simplifies emission-based parking fees with custom solution
The council assesses emissions-based fees at parking lots as part of its clean air efforts. Parking solutions partner Metric Group developed custom software for the automated calculation of these fees. Eighteen machines at eight parking lots pull current emissions data from the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Agency using the patron's registration number. This system offers a user-friendly interface for payments and improves enforcement of council parking rules.

Leeds City Council, GB builds the first solar-powered Park and Ride lot in the United Kingdom
The Stourton Park and Ride houses a SolarEdge system with a maximum output of 1.2 megawatts. Energy stored in a 950kWh battery is used for electric vehicle charging, lot lighting, and climate control in the passenger waiting area. Half of the lot's parking spaces are covered by solar canopies. Local officials estimate that 12% of captured energy will be sent back to the local grid. This project will produce 852,000 kWh of electricity and save 471,000 kilograms of carbon emissions per year.

London Royal Borough of Greenwich, GB promotes low-emission vehicle use with parking discounts
Borough officials approved public parking rates of £2, £5, and £7 per hour based on vehicle emissions. The PayByPhone app used for parking payments cross-checks plate numbers with the DVLA in calculating rates with low-emission discounts of up to 65%. Greenwich's residential and commercial parking permits are based on 13 emission bands with the lowest bands saving up to 80%. The permitting process applies surcharges for multi-car households and diesel vehicles.

Arlington County, VA partners with eleven-x on smart parking for Arlington commercial district
A network of 5,000 SPS-X sensors from eleven-x will be placed throughout the district by the summer of 2023. Real-time vacancy data will be sent to digital signage and a mobile app so that commuters can find parking spots. The sensors also connect to the eXactpark platform for analysis of parking duration, hotspots, and future demand. An engagement campaign and an initial installation at the Courthouse Plaza parking lot will educate the public about this technology.

Berlin, BE designs micromobility parking zones with help from Vianova's Cityscope platform
Transit operator Berliner Verkehrsbetriebe sought a data-driven method for creating parking for 70,000 micro-mobility vehicles. Cityscope uses location data from e-scooters, e-bikes, and shared cars for real-time analytics. An interactive dashboard shows the most frequently used vehicle types, routes, and parking locations. Local officials will turn Cityscope's insights into 150 parking zones with connections to public transit and minimal traffic impacts.

Amsterdam, NH develops underwater bike garages for improved connections to transit options
A four-year project resulted in two underwater facilities with a capacity of up to 11,000 bikes. Cyclists park the first day for free with a €1.35 fee applied for each additional day. The parking structures connect to Amsterdam's Centraal Station using a series of moving walkways. City officials are removing surface bike racks and garages above the Stationsplein. This shift to underground parking translates into wider cycling and pedestrian lanes along with a cleaner waterfront.

Oakland, CA works with Populus on smart loading zone program for commercial deliveries
Commercial fleet operators apply for Smart Loading Zone permits through Populus. The permit process requires registration and location data sharing for all vehicles operating in Oakland. Registered delivery vehicles can park in paid parking zones within city limits thanks to automated payments. Operators pay $3 per vehicle each year and $0.03 per minute of parking. Smart Loading Zone permits minimize traffic impacts from increased delivery volumes.

Guelph, ON adopts eleven-x smart parking technology for improved enforcement and planning
Guelph and eleven-x plan implementation of the eXactpark system across two stages. The initial stage adds SPS-X sensors to 250 downtown parking spaces with another 1,750 spaces connected during the second stage. SPS-X sensor data on vehicle occupancy of public parking spaces feed into the eXactpark platform. City officials will use parking data for enforcement of its two-hour free parking initiative and more precise allocation of resources to parking services.

Project partners Tranzito, Vector Media, and Black & Veatch will upgrade 3,000 bus shelters ahead of the 2028 Summer Olympics. Proposed shelter designs incorporate digital displays for improved communications with commuters and charging capabilities. Select bus shelters combine expanded shade from the sun with solar panels for zero-emissions operations. Package lockers and micromobility stations turn bus stops into vital resources for community members.

Hoboken, NJ promotes local shopping during the holiday season with reserved public parking pilot
Hoboken worked with ParkMobile on a reservation system for parking spots at three public garages. Shoppers can book their spaces seven days a week through ParkMobile, thus reducing time spent finding vacant spots. Garages participating in the pilot also provide up to four hours of free parking with proof of at least $20 spent at local stores and eateries. The city also offers a 50% discount for selected on-street spots with the PARKHOB code in ParkMobile.

Saskatoon, SK Veteran Parking Pilot Program measures impacts on parking availability and traffic
Saskatoon seeks a method of offering free parking for military veterans without new infrastructure or signage.
