The app includes an audio commentary for each location and quizzes about regional history. Council leaders attracted What Was Here? app feedback with a drawing for an Amazon Echo Dot based on survey responses.

Yorkshire Council and Driffield Town Council preceded the pilot with a survey to understand how residents use community assets.
