The City of Halle partnered with Unizo, United Traders Halle, and the province of Flemish Brabant to launch the "Win your business" competition. Participants with a starting capital of at least €6,600 can register a detailed business plan for an opportunity to win a start-up package. The start-up package includes: one year free rent, opening publicity worth €1,000, a furnishing subsidy worth €3,000, and starter guidance by Unizo worth €2,000.

The City of Halle partnered with United Traders Halle to launch the "Start your business" campaign in order to support prospective entrepreneurs and reduce the number of vacant properties on shopping streets. Prospective entrepreneurs can access the "Start your business" website to review a list of all vacant commercial properties that are looking for a new owner or tenant. The website also contains links to useful information for new businesses and testimonials from successful local traders.

Halle (Hal), VBR "Cycling Friends" initiative gives non-native speakers a language-learning tour
The City of Halle organized the "Cycling Friends" project to connect non-Dutch speaking residents with Dutch-speaking volunteers. The project involves the pairs cycling throughout the city over a ten weekly sessions on pre-established routes. During these sessions, the non-native speakers are given a tour of the city as new residents and an opportunity to practice their Dutch with an experienced resident.

Halle (Hal), VBR launched the Citizen's Budget to support innovative proposals from residents
The City of Halle launched the Citizen's Budget with 200,000 euros to support proposals for residents that benefit a neighborhood, district, or the entire city. Every proposal to receives at least 15 votes is submitted to a Citizen's Jury consisting of residents that decide which projects receive a portion of the budget. The subsidies range from 500 to 50,000 euroes per project and each winner is given two years to implement the project.

Halle (Hal), VBR launched a pilot of language icons to help with non-native speaker participation
The city of Halle partnered with the Agency for Integration and Inburgering to launch a pilot of language icons developed by the Huis van het Nederlands. The language icons consist of four symbols that indicate the language level of an activity. During the pilot, the language icons will be used for activities of the Equal Opportunities Service, CC 't Vondel and the sports service. These icons indicate how well non-native speakers need to know Dutch to comfortably participate in an activity.
