St. John's, NL generates traffic data through smart sensor pilot with Liveable Cities
St. John's, NL Liveable Cities Smart Sensor Traffic Pilot
The six-week pilot uses sensors on LED streetlights at 10 locations to observe traffic patterns. Sensor data include the number of vehicles, lane usage, and average speeds. City officials will use this information for adjustments to enforcement patterns and traffic-calming measures. A successful pilot may extend the sensor network to the 1,700 LED fixtures recently updated by Saint John Energy and Liveable Cities.
