West Lothian Council, GB monitors environmental issues in council homes with smart sensor pilot
Local officials installed climate sensors in 100 council homes for the pilot. The sensors gather real-time data on temperature, humidity, and other environmental metrics. Participating tenants receive text messages when sensors detect the early signs of dampness and condensation. This system ensures quick repairs necessary to prevent long-term health problems. West Lothian Council will use pilot data when budgeting council home upgrades in the future.

West Lothian Council, GB encourages proper waste disposal with talking public bin pilot
Project partner Wybone installed 68 specialty bins throughout the Linlithgow Loch area. Each bin plays a recorded "thank you" message whenever it is used. The smart bins measure fill levels and send messages to the council when collections are required. Early results indicate that positive reinforcement reduces litter, while the bin's fill technology prevents overflows. Council officials plan an additional five talking bins in the pilot area by the end of 2022.
