Devon County Council, GB Tackling Loneliness With Transport
The pilot received £494,000 in national funds for services assisting residents aged 16 to 24 and those aged 55 and over. A "travel buddy" system creates welcoming environments for bus travel with help from trained volunteers and drivers. Devon County Council will build senior confidence in planning, paying for, and riding public transit through a new travel training program. Community rail ambassadors and a Try the Train program will encourage the use of local lines by young residents.
