Medicine Hat, AB Project Clear Horizon opens carbon sequestration capacity for local industries
Medicine Hat, AB Project Clear Horizon Carbon Sequestration
Project Clear Horizon is a Carbon Capture Utilization and Storage (CCUS) facility planned for a 2027 opening. Carbon dioxide produced by energy companies and manufacturers would be injected into the pore spaces deep below the surface level. Medicine Hat plans an open CCUS so that emitters of all sizes could contribute to carbon emission reductions. City officials project an annual processing capacity of three million tons, thus contributing to a 2050 national net-zero goal.
