Seven hundred apartments and homes in six areas were selected to separate kitchen waste from trash headed to the landfill. Each participant received a kitchen caddy, step-by-step instructions, and enough biodegradable bags for the six-month program. Pori issued a 240-liter curbside bin for every six households to maximize bin use. Municipal officials surveyed pilot participants to determine how the program can improve by 2024.

Biojäte talteen -kampanjan tavoitteena oli tehostaa biojätteen lajittelua ja selvittää biojätteen erilliskeräyksen laajentamisen haasteita sekä kerätä kokemuksia kimppabioastian käytöstä omakotitalojen alueilla. Biojäte talteen -kampanja alkoi syyskuussa 2020 ja loppui maaliskuun alkuun 2021. Mukaan haastettiin melkein 700 kotitaloutta Porin taajama-alueella. Mukana oli sekä omakotitaloja että kerros- ja rivitaloja Karja-rannasta, Herralahdesta, Kuninkaanhaasta, Pietniemestä, Viidennestä osasta ja Toejoelta.

Project Succeeded

Ninety percent of survey respondents said that food waste separation was simple. Pori found 63% of respondents would consider composting and food waste reduction measures after the pilot.
