Nottingham City Council, GB CleanMobilEnergy pilot combines solar and vehicle-to-grid technologies

Two batteries constructed from recycled car batteries were installed at the city's Eastcroft Depot. The batteries hold 1,200 kWh of energy generated by the facility's solar panels. A fleet of 40 plug-in electric vehicles and six lorries is charged by 40 vehicle-to-grid chargers. The system provides entirely renewable energy to city vehicles with minimal use of the electrical grid. This pilot is the first of its type in the country and one of four supported by Interreg North-West Europe.

Nottingham City Council, GB combines GIS data and 3D modeling technology with site assessment pilot

Nottingham received free access to GIS software and one-on-one assistance as part of a pilot with Esri UK. This collaboration resulted in a site assessment prototype incorporating GIS data into an interactive 3D map accessible from any browser. Planning officials and developers consulted the tool for visualizations of potential constraints created by neighboring lots, conservation areas, and other considerations. Future uses of the technology may include VR consultations with the public.

Nottingham City Council, GB designs a smart traffic management system in collaboration with Vivacity

Nottingham and Vivacity started the 219-sensor network at the intersection of the A6514 and Aspley Lane. This initial installation combines sensor data on current traffic with AI-enabled analytics for optimized signal timing. Smart intersections elsewhere in Nottingham will also use Automatic Number Plate Recognition and active travel insights. Local officials will gain citywide insights into traffic types and trends following the nine-month installation process.

Nottingham City Council, GB Broad Marsh Car Park combines green and smart facility design

The parking lot's 81 electric vehicle chargers are the most in a single location in the country. A 720-panel rooftop solar installation provides all of the garage's power and eliminates 53 tons of annual emissions. Car park patrons are guided to the closest vacant spots by signs and lights informed by sensor data. Exterior doors at the transit station only open when buses are fully parked; thus reducing heat loss while keeping commuters safe and warm.

North Tyneside Council, GB experiments with remote monitoring technology for vulnerable residents

Council officials and Lilli selected 100 residents receiving at-home care for the pilot. Small sensors throughout a participant's home measure movement, temperature, and diet around the clock. Lilli's data dashboard converts sensor data into insights for proactive care through machine learning. North Tyneside Council will shape care programs based on trends across participating homes. Data-driven responses are expected to reduce hospital admissions and support independent living.
