Petaluma, CA adds emergency shelter capacity for the homeless with People's Village pilot
The People's Village consists of 25 tiny homes adjacent to the city's largest shelter. This community is designed for homeless residents who are resistant to or concerned about shelter stays. Each home has a metal frame with locking doors and windows for safety. Community partners identify the health and social services needed for long-term housing stability. Petaluma worked with Sonoma County and the Committee on the Shelterless on the project.

The city plans to adopt this policy to discourage the use of fossil fuels, promote the installation of electric vehicle chargers, and encourage residents to purchase electric vehicles. The Council determined that one gas station within a five-minute drive of every residential area in the city was sufficient for the community.
